One more time!
So, because the hostel we stayed at is super awesome, they let us use the lockers in their basement today after we checked out so we could go shopping and stuff without all our luggage! We just came back to get it and were gonna go sit at the station or a cafe for a while and wait, when we remembered that they had a lounge and game room we'd never even looked at. It has a ping pong table, pool table, tvs, movie room, internet lab and several arcade games! So we're sitting here relaxing a bit and using the web before we head up to use the subway the last time.
Last night we went out and luckily it had stopped raining for a while. We met Johnny at 2 x 4 where he had met these people, one of whom was leaving for China the next day (today). They were super nice. And I had a Moz shirt on, which everyone at the gay bar loved. Some girl took a picture of it to put in her blog. So Johnny and I had absinthe! Unfortunately, as with most things in my life, it was sorta ghetto. This is because they were out of sugarcubes, so they had to use a box of domino's sugar and shake it up with it! LOL! It was still good, very good. It didn't make me all crazy (I just had a little glass), but it made me super mellow and I got drunk very quickly afterwards. I would totally do it again! We were there until around 3AM (the bars close at 4AM here, and if there's enough people they just close the doors and keep serving liquor until everyone leaves), then we caught the subway home and said by to Johnny. So much fun!
Today we woke up, checked out, had breakfast and headed to Greenwich Village again to go to the White Horse Tavern. Well, it decided to fucking pour rain again, so everything we had that was dry finally soon became soaked again. Dammit. And we walked in the wrong direction for about seven blocks too. :( But in the end it was worth it. This bar was so cute! It was all wooden and was truly pub-tacular. It reminded me of a classier Big Jim's. There was... what I assume to be a retired soccer team there. They all had on soccer-seeming uniforms but were really old. They were in the bar... singing songs together! Very drunkly, too. Esp. for 3PM. It was so cute! I was happy just to visit this historic bar. This is the bar in which Dylan Thomas drank 18 shots of whiskey before he stumbled home and died. This is the bar across the street from where Jack Kerouac lived, and the bar which kicked him out time and time again. This is the bar where Hunter S. Thompson hung out in New York. I was thrilled! I would go there all the time if I lived here, and I would write a book sitting in the window of the bar.
So then we came back here and are chilling in the basement lounge. There's a bunch of British boys with adorable accents playing pool in the next room. Some French girls were just smoking cigarettes in front of me. And two Chinese people are using the computers in the internet lab. Earlier today, we checked into our lockers with a group of German kids. I <3 NY! I will be truly sad to leave it, not just because I'm a-feared to get on the Greyhound bus again after last week's trip!
Will update some time upon arrival home! I had a blast this week!
